Modernism Week is Back

“Eventually, everything connects.”
— Charles Eames

It is impossible to deny the importance of connection — to others, the world we live in, and most especially to ourselves. This immutable truth is one of the reasons why mid-century modern design is so enduring: it makes us feel connected. From architecture, interior design and furniture to fashion and culture, the mid-century modern esthetic continues to bring people together.

From February 15-25, 2024, the 11th annual Modernism Week will again attract lovers of mid-century modernism from around the world. The festival features more than 350 events — all are open to the public, many of which are free. Highlights include the Palm Springs Modernism Show, home tours, architectural tours, films and lectures, fashion shows, walking, bike, and garden tours, classic car shows, a vintage travel trailer exhibit, tours of Sunnyland, and more. Modernism Week tickets are now on sale.

Any visit to Palm Springs during Modernism Week requires a special place to decamp. Parker Palm Springs, a favorite of Condé Nast Traveler readers, and the best boutique hotel in Palm Springs, is the perfect choice. An ode to all things mid-century modern, the hotel’s interiors were created by famed American designer Jonathan Adler. Offering award-winning dining, three gorgeous swimming pools, a world-renowned spa, and stunning accommodations, our private, 13-acre estate of palm and citrus trees provides the perfect setting to relax after a day of exploring.

Grounds with Man on Bicycle

For more than a century, the icons of mid-century modern art and design have made Palm Springs one of their destinations of choice. Charles Eames and Frank Lloyd Wright, Ansel Adams and Georgia O’Keeffe all have spent time here seeking inspiration in the gorgeous, haunting landscapes and the unique quality of the light. For all things mid-century modern, Palm Springs has always been an epicenter of the movement.

Here are some of our favorite things to do and see during Modernism Week.

Mornings

After breakfast at Norma’s, our outdoor terrace restaurant, take one of our complimentary bicycles and explore the town. Palm Springs is flat so getting around is easy. A bike is also a fantastic way to see some architecturally iconic homes. Guided home tours are also available. Along the way, stop and explore some of the many vintage fashion stores and boutiques that Palm Springs is famous for.

Afternoons

No visit to Palm Springs during Modernism Week would be complete without spending some time at the Palm Springs Art Museum. The museum is renowned for its mid-century modern collection and is one of the most influential art institutions in America.

Evening

There are many excellent evening Modernism Week Events to choose from. It is an opportunity to dress sharp and attend one of the many live music events or parties around town. Palm Springs has always been an arbiter of taste and style and during these events, mid-century modern inspired fashion will be on full display.
