The desert springs to life in the fall
“I return to the desert, my canvas, my muse.”
— The Unknown Painter
For most of the world, fall is a time to take stock, store up, and add an extra layer of clothing. It is a season to rake the leaves and stow away the patio furniture. A season of reflection, grasping at the last tendrils of the waning warmth of summer…except in Palm Springs.
Fall in the desert is about coming to life. Here, nature, dormant under withering summer heat, begins to stir again. At Parker Palm Springs, our private, oasis-like estate covers thirteen acres and is the perfect location from which to explore both town and country under the golden sunshine of Southern California.
Widely known as the best resort in Palm Springs, here you will discover the perfect balance of understated luxury, one-of-a-kind amenities, superb food and drink, and an environment that at once relaxes and rejuvenates. Add the gorgeous, blue-sky days and warm starry nights, and it makes the fall season at Parker Palm Springs exactly the kind of fall you have been dreaming of.
Lounging by one of our three swimming pools is always on the agenda at Parker Palm Spring but so too is discovering the local area. Here are a few of our suggestions.
Every Thursday evening in the town center of Palm Springs, Palm Canyon Drive closes to street traffic and is transformed into a festive, pedestrian street fair. Full of vibrant, colorful energy, the shops stay open late and an array of street vendors – food, antiques, collectibles, artists, musicians – share their craft and passion. After an evening of strolling, relax back at Parker Palm Springs around our outdoor fire pit, where toasting S’mores is a tradition. In the company of friends old and new, under the canvas of the desert night sky, there is nothing quite like it.
Palm Springs Art Museum / A+D Center
Friday, start with a refreshing dip in the pool and an al fresco meal at Norma’s, our on-property breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot. Then, hop on one of our complimentary bicycles and spend the morning exploring the town. Palm Springs is renowned for its mid-century architecture and tours are available. Be sure to stop in at the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Architecture and Design Center. The museum boasts one of the finest modern and contemporary collections anywhere and the A+D Center’s pavilion is a masterpiece itself, an ode to the exploration of architecture and design.
After a morning of cycling, you are probably ready for some down time. Nowhere does that better than the Palm Springs Yacht Club (PSYC). This stunning spa, with Jonathan Adler interiors, will transport you to the classic, American country clubs of yore. Enjoy a variety of treatments in one of fifteen private rooms, along with all the accoutrements worthy of the moment. After, recline poolside in a private cabana, debating who feels more relaxed.
Saturday is for adventure and less than an hour away is Palm Canyon, considered one of the most beautiful spots in all the Western United States. Managed by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indian Reservation, this 15-mile-long canyon is a true hidden oasis. To make your day truly memorable, have Norma’s pack you a picnic basket, the kind that includes a bottle of champagne. Please be sure to leave the canyon as pristine as you found it.
After a day in the desert, refreshments await at Counter Reformation, our on-property shrine to Parisian tabacs. Lean up to the bar to enjoy small plated savory delicacies and a curated selection of wine by the glass. It is a great place to trade stories of your day, in the Hemingway tradition.
Sunday is the day you really deserve. Each of our three pools has their own musical ambience, for just the right vibe. Poolside, in the world’s most comfortable lounge chair, cocktail in hand, knowing you have a late-late checkout option for Monday, your only real decision is how long between dips in the sparkling cool water. Just another glorious fall day at Parker Palm Springs.
