Set Sail in the Desert

“The desert is an ocean in which no oar is dipped.”

— T.E. Lawrence

The parallels between oceans and deserts are well known – vast, open expanses that stretch to the horizon with seemingly little life on the surface. The solitude has inspired both philosophers and poets, musing about the power of nature and our place in the world. At sea, sailors are always on the lookout for a safe harbor. For desert sailors, their safe harbor is the oasis that is Parker Palm Springs and the renowned on-property spa, the Palm Springs Yacht Club (PSYC).

Inspired by the yacht clubs of yore, PSYC evokes a time when the Kennedys sailed the shores of Martha’s Vineyard. Its low-key, country club atmosphere will transport you to a place where the outside world is easily left behind. Here, the waters are always calm, the wind is alee, and the crew are experts at pampering.

Our desert yacht club is unique and PSYC is considered by many to be the best spa in Palm Springs. Here, arriving guests are welcomed aboard by the Commodore, Charleen Senior – along with a thimble full of cucumber infused vodka. “People realize immediately they are about to embark on something special,” she says. “Our Palm Springs spa is a place of restorative, self-indulgent pleasure.”

The wow factor begins immediately with the stunning Jonathan Adler designed interiors and the large indoor saline swimming pool. Replete with luxurious deck chairs and elegant cabanas, it is also a wonderful place to relax with a refreshing cocktail after a spa treatment.

Following a brief tour around the deck, you are whisked off to one of our 15 private treatment rooms. Charleen says PSYC offers some one-of-a-kind treatment packages that guests rave about. Here are a few of her favorites.

Lost at Sea – A 90-minute facial is followed by a 60-minute Guava sugar body polishing. And that is just the first 2.5 hours. Next you enjoy a 90-minute full body massage. Finally, you are treated to a warmed hand and foot paraffin treatment. “It is head to toe bliss,” Charleen says.

Salty Body Buffing or Sugar Body Polishing – Both are great summer treatments designed to help exfoliate sun-dried skin from those long sunny days spent by the pool. Once your skin has been completely buffed and polished, your skin is slowly painted with a warmed hydrating enriched body butter to help renew and restore your skin’s healthy glow.

Charleen says that all treatments – from facials to wraps, reflexology and massage – are personalized to your specific requirements. If you are planning to spend the day, Charleen has some tips to get the most of out of your full day of self-care.

Come Early(ish) – Start with a workout in the Boiler Room, our fully outfitted gym, to get your circulation flowing. For something less strenuous but more mindful, you can join our complementary yoga class offered every Saturday and Sunday at 10am in the yoga studio. Once you complete your morning activities, take time to enjoy our enclosed patio where you can relax in the sunshine or enjoy a light snack or champagne from our Food & Beverage menu. Now you are ready for a pampering treatment.

Along with a full indoor co-ed relaxation area we offer an indoor pool, two hot tubs, lounge chairs and private cabanas. In our gender specific areas, we have steam rooms, dry saunas, showers, and a fully stocked locker room complete with comfortable robes, sandals, scented showers and all the amenities you need to prepare to set sail for a night out or in, which ever you prefer.
