Fall Modernism Week

Take your pleasure seriously.
~ Charles Eames

Palm Springs was one of the epicenters of the American mid-century modern movement. Today, the aesthetic that helped define Palm Springs has been preserved for all to enjoy. From architecture and design to style and culture, the Coachella Valley continues to be a destination for artists, designers, and those who appreciate the finer things in life.

This year celebrates the 20th anniversary of Modernism Week, which runs, October 16-19. With more than 50 exclusive activities, many of the famous buildings that define Palm Springs will be available for tours, including those by architectural legends such as Albert Frey, Frank Loydd Wright, and E. Stewart Williams. This year also offers the first public tour of the sensational Sackley Chase Home. A 1976 collaboration between architect Stan Sackley and legendary interior designer Steve Chase, the home is a must-see for anyone who admires mid-century modern form and style. Other notable home tours include  Frey House II and the famous Elvis honeymoon hideaway House of Tomorrow.

A must visit during the week is the Palm Springs Art Museum. Among the finest museums in America, its collection of mid-century modern art, painting, drawings, and furniture (including by Charles Eames) is unmatched. For those wanting to really get into the mood of the era, don’t miss Sinatra’s Rat Pack Homes & Hangout Bars Bus Tour. It is a great excuse to don your fedora or pill box hat and embrace our iconic American style.

Speaking of icons, Parker Palm Springs is perhaps the best example of what a mid-century modern hotel should be. A perennial favorite of Condé Nast Traveler, our estate-hotel is an ode to the period’s style, luxury, and comfort. The interiors are by famed American designer Jonathan Adler and public areas, wedding and event spaces, and guest rooms are adorned with stunning objets d’art. We also offer a special guided Hotel Art Tour to get you up close and personal with some of our most defining works. Speak with our Concierge for more information.

Classic mid-century modern style is the perfect combination of luxury and relaxation, inspiring us to take pleasure in both our surroundings and ourselves — just like Parker Palm Springs.
