There’s an old adage that says “who’s around the table is just as important as what’s on the table.” We couldn’t agree more — except for the part about the table.
Counter Reformation, our intimate, 22‑seat wine bar once again welcomes the devout disciples of the grape. The room harkens back to a time when Americans often ate and drank at a counter — in a diner, a train station, or the classic drugstore. It wasn’t about fancy (though we’re not against a touch of luxury), it was about quality — good refreshments, good food, and a place to strike up a conversation with strangers.
This is a place to pull up a stool — ours are very comfortable — and don’t be shy, elbows are allowed on the ‘table’. We’re not fussy, except when it comes to wine and food. We offer 16 rare pours to savor, each one specially curated for its drinkability and the story behind it. Here it is about range, variety, exploration, and discovery. So, be sure to ask our Cave à Manger for some recommendations. But beware, you may be regaled with tall tales of the wine’s origin and the people who made it — most of which will probably be true.
Our wines are complimented by a select, small-plate menu. It is a tasting smorgasbord designed for sharing, inspiring both the palate and quite possibly your mood. Hearts of Palm Calamari, Jamón Ibérico, and Lobster Bolognese on Chopsticks are but a few of the choices. (Full disclosure: we make the portions just the right size so you can have as many as your appetite allows.)
The final piece of our intimate énigme is the lively vibe, the kind that comes from authentic conversation in a room designed with that in mind. Be it friends or strangers, the shared pleasure of the moment is sure to spark camaraderie, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself toasting your neighbor — because that’s the intention.
